The Three Ring Circus Big Top Gallery invited me to have a solo show for the work I created during my sabbatical, September, 2011.
About the show:
Infomercials. Celebrity endorsements. Billboards. Product placements. Banner ads. Spam. All directed a you—”the consumer”—to keep the machine of late industrial capitalism running. As our society shows it’s cracks, that which produces those cracks reels and inundates us with more expectations to “buy”—to save the machine. And we obey.
How about campaign that makes people think beyond a product? A campaign that celebrates the positive instead of manipulating the tired. What if this campaign made people think—instead of merely react—about positive change and the people that create that change in the day to day lives of others?
Graphic grATTITUDE is a design campaign that encourages New Orleanians to think about our community and the part they play in creating that community. This show uses portraits and typography to promote the ideas of people who have made positive changes to contemporary New Orleans. This exhibition is meant to live not only in galleries, or behind closed doors, but also on the streets of New Orleans. As you explore the city keep your eyes open for the art you see here.
